Dear Ms Cuevas,
We can assure you that the promotion being advanced by LEEDCo and the City of Cleveland with respect to fresh water turbines offshore, is fanciful and not in tandem with the reality that most people now understand with respect to non performing, dangerous, and polluting wind turbines. These are NOT machines we wish in our Great Lakes, or indeed anywhere. Ontario, Canada, as you know initiated an offshore moratorium in 2011. NYPA abandoned the GLOW offshore project because of high costs and public outrage. The TRCA (Toronto and Region Conservation Authority), which encompasses leaders, Mayors and councillors from in and around the Greater Toronto Area, a significant number of real political leaders, has also put in place an offshore moratorium, citing dangers to the Lake and wildlife as well as costs to human health. Two other Lakeside cities, Ajax and Pickering have also similarly conducted studies and resoundingly and quickly provided offshore moratoria votes. US Lakeside communities to be in line with the GLOW project, unanimously voted against industrial wind in the Lakes.
While a few unsuspecting persons may have signed up for an additional fee on their power bills to endorse and support the idea of “green” energy in the Lakes, there are thousands, millions more, who will not, and who understand the economic havoc and energy poverty that attend such a power source. This is a project that must be aborted. The hungry subsidy and loan sharks can find another gig.
The myth of job creation is completely debunked world wide: the truth is that within short order, energy poverty and higher costs of power, create energy drains, with jobs swirling down deep into never land. Spain has lost 2.2 jobs per so called “green job,” and the UK, 5.4. We do not need to replicate these green experiments.
The truth is also that these massive bird chopping machines, are currently acting as ocean trawlers: gobbling up all in their path, and the collateral damages are huge. The Great Lakes are a repository of migration. There are no migration studies to indicate safe areas. The damages to the Lakes, the ecosystem, and the economy of the Lakes will be long-lasting, and untenable. This is not the legacy we wish for Cleveland, and Ohio, nor any Lakeside communities. Europe has sadly collected the “data” on industrial wind and found it to be a sham and fiasco. Please tell your readers the truth about industrial wind.
Sincerely,
Sherri Lange
